At the Institute of Accounting, Control and Auditing (ACA), a Competence Cluster for Accounting, Controlling, Auditing, Corporate Governance and Performance Measurement, I am working on international research projects and the transfer of latest scientific findings in controlling and performance management into practice.
In terms of methodology I focus on empirical research approaches (quantitative and/or case study based) with the aim of publishing relevant research results in top-level academic journals.
My research concentrates on further developing management accounting theories and is driven by the pschological school of thought, an increasingly sophisticated organizational design and complex tool set for managerial control, as well as the digital transformation of business models.
Current research projects deal with transparency, accountability, cognition, communication and responsibility accounting.
My name is Stefan Illich-Edlinger. I work and live in St. Gallen, Switzerland. I am passionate about financial management, while maintaining a strong interest in behavioral economics and accounting. I completed my master´s degree in Finance and Accounting from Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU). I grew up in Stadt Haag (NÖ) and attended high school in Linz (OÖ) with a major in communications and media design.
My research position at ACA-HSG, a Competence Cluster for Accounting, Controlling, Auditing, Corporate Governance and Performance Measurement, enables me to build competitive advantages due to academic and institutional knowledge in management, accounting and corporate finance, while my design thinking approach allows me to dive deep into corporate culture to manage tensions of organizational design.
During my master studies at WU, I was engaged in activities to build a comprehensive financial management skill set. I advised tech-startups on pricing and business administrative issues, while I was responsible for strategy and corporate design. Curious to cut through the complexity of today´s management issues and eager to gain further insights into the field of performance management, I identified future opportunities for businesses to integrate design in organizational control, management and communication processes.

In my spare time I love to hike, take photos, discover delicious foods and I am very much interested in financial markets, design and new technologies.
